For parents and guardians
VERSION 2026-10-17 · in effect since 2026-10-17
Scriptoria is a Bible with a map, a Bible quiz of twelve questions a day and a place to study. This page says, with no fine print, what your child finds here, what we keep and how to reach us.
NOTICE: This document describes precisely what the system does, but it has not yet been through legal review. If you are a lawyer and find a mistake, write to us: it is exactly the kind of message we want to receive.
AGE
Accounts are for people 13 or older. When someone creates an account, we ask only for the year of birth, which serves one purpose: checking that minimum age. It is not shown to anyone and is not used for anything else.
If the answer shows someone under 13, we do not create the account and we do not keep what was typed, and for one day that browser does not offer to create an account again. For ages 13 to 17, the account should be created with the knowledge of the teen's parent or guardian.
NO ACCOUNT
Reading, playing the Daily Challenge and appearing on the leaderboard all work without an account. In that case we keep a random identifier and the game progress in the browser. No name, no email. That is how a child can use Scriptoria.
WHAT OTHER PEOPLE SEE
- The leaderboard shows a copyist name, such as "Copyist #4821", never the real name or the email. A chosen nickname replaces that name only if the person turns that option on, and for anyone under 18 the leaderboard always shows the copyist name.
- Notes and study boards are private. No one but the person reads them.
- In a live room, the other players in that room see each player's nickname and points (only there), and the nickname of anyone who played without an account disappears 30 days later.
- There is no communication between users: no chat, no messages, no photo sharing.
- There is no advertising, and there are no in-game purchases, no loot boxes and no coins.
LIVE ROOMS
In a live room (a quiz where everyone answers at the same time, each on their own phone), the host is an adult with an account, who declares that they are responsible for the room. A child joins with a first name or a nickname: we do not create an account, we do not ask for an email and the nickname disappears 30 days later. In the room there is no chat, only questions and answers; the host can remove someone and lock the room to new players. If anything in a room worries you, use the contact page with the topic "Child safety and reports".
SCREEN TIME
The Daily Challenge has twelve questions and ends: there is no infinite scroll and no game that starts on its own. We do not send notifications unless the person asks for them. The streak counts how many days in a row someone has played or read. Losing the streak does not take away any points or achievements.
YOUR RIGHTS
You can ask to see, correct or delete the data in your child's account, and ask us to remove an account created by someone under 13. Write to us through the contact page, with the topic "Child safety and reports". We reply by email.
REPORTING
Did you see something wrong in the content, or anything about a child that worries you? Use the same topic, "Child safety and reports": it is read before the others. If a child is in danger right now, call 911 in the United States or the local emergency number where you are. In Brazil, you can also call Disque 100, the national human rights hotline, free and open every day.
