About Scriptoria
UPDATED 10/26/2026
Scriptoria is a Bible to read with the map, the period and the people of each passage. It's also a daily Bible quiz, to play alone or live with your church.
WHAT IT IS
- The whole Bible, in the Berean Standard Bible, which is in the public domain: all 66 books, chapter by chapter, with a page for every verse.
- Where it happened. Every place the Bible names has its point on the map, the passages that mention it and what happened there.
- Who appears. The people the text names, with the genealogy the text itself states (each family tie with the verse that says so).
- When. The period of each passage, where that date comes from, who was ruling and what else was happening in the world at the time.
- The Daily Challenge: twelve questions, the same for everyone, with a weekly leaderboard. And live rooms, where everyone answers at the same time, each on their own phone: for a Sunday school class, a youth group, a family.
WHO IT'S FOR
For people who read the Bible and want to understand where and when it all happened; for churches, Sunday schools and families who study together; and for anyone who researches or writes about the Bible: every verse, place and person has a stable address, and each of those pages also exists as plain text (Markdown), so it can be cited without copying and pasting.
WHAT WE DON'T TOUCH
- The Bible text. It is the source's, word for word. Not even a link goes inside a verse: marking up the text would alter the quotation.
- Uncertainty. A debated location is called debated; a reconstructed date is called reconstructed. We would rather leave a gap than invent a certainty.
- The sources. Every date says where it comes from and every family tie cites its verse; the sources and licenses page says where everything else comes from.
- Your privacy. No ads, no third-party trackers, no sale of data. The privacy policy says what we keep and for how long.
HOW IT'S FUNDED
Reading, playing and studying are free. Paid plans give more study space and larger, private rooms, but never points on the leaderboard: there, everyone plays on equal terms.
